Let's have a vote...


Well, since the spotlight a few of us have come over here to check the place out only to find the premise good but covered in spam, as the person who founded the comm, the_phred, doesn't seem to come by here anymore and has set themselves to be impossible to contact. So after a small discussion with another user, I was wondering if people who usually frequent here would be willing to move? Another comm, monitored by a few mods so the same can't happen again! What do you think?

I checked out and sent a message to LJ this morning to ask them to move maintainership to me, so that I could give it to whoever should have it after that, but I figured, at least, I am online all day anyhow - I'm new, but I wouldn't mind for the time being, killing the spam in the comm - since I don't work.

ETA: I tried to get in touch with the listed maintainer and couldn't leave a comment or send a PM, and they say on their journal they don't have a computer since OCT so.... I figured it met the criteria*

Moving might be the easiest option. I would think that reporting the spammers as bots (which they probably are) would eventually get rid of them (keyword though, eventually).

That aside, that's a really lovely photo, I wonder what the remains are of - machine or facility.

I picked "other" - try to ignore the spam while you petition LJ to create a co-mod, and if the response isn't timely enough, then yeah. Definitely move.

Hi, I really love this comm, the pics are beautiful but the never ending spambot cheap shoe and viagra sellers are driving me mad. I'd vote for a co-mod and if LJ don't play ball move the comm completely and have it so all comments are screened.

I am also for the waiting to see if LJ will allow a co-mod. If not, then I would be happy to set everything up for a new one and just transfer it over to whoever wants to mod. I hope that this comm can be saved, though.

I too, am new in the 'hood. But I'm a stubborn cow and would vote to report and remove spammers rather than lose such lovely content as I've seen, fwiw.

Of course, it was taken on White Island, New Zealand. It is an active volcano and there was a sulphur mine there, after a few explosions and lahars they gave up on having the equipment and staff left on the island as things like this would happen. There is a post about 10 back on this comm where someone else posts their own pics and has a much more detailed description of the place.

I'm not sure what to do, I have not seen any spam posts though and I just joined and I am loving this community, regardless of any existence of spam or courses of action taken, I would love to remain, I was just getting some posts for here in my head.

I've been watching this community about four years, and all I really care about is the art expressed here.

I'm surprised by how many people are bothered by the spam; I personally have no problem ignoring it, and have scarcely seen any from the comfort of my friends page, so I voted to stay.

That said, if the artists pack up and move, then I will of course go with them.

If you put your cursor over each name in the comments, it opens a place where you can ban the user and or report a bot.
